Sweet Desperation

Because A Mind is a Terrible Thing To Waste

Chapter 1 by frohike frohike

Throughout your life, you have always been able to manipulate people quite easily. You misstakenly took this as people being friendly and willing to help, but as you grew into your teens you discovered how wrong that judgement was; you began to wonder why people were so willing to help you but not each other.

After leaving Harvard (Yay for you, but don't get too exited, you HATED it there) with your degree in law, you went to work in an office for a law firm in New York. The work was below your abilities, allowing you to further pursue the question of your success with people in life.

After finding (as expected) that even your superiors in the firm were all surprisingly amenable to getting you cups of coffee, you decided to push it a little.

On you sixteenth day at work, you told your boss Dave to kick the photocopier.

"What the hell are you talking about, Doe? Get on with your work!"

Oh dear. Not the great Hypno-magic-man Doeini, then. As your enraged employer departs, you wish you had asked for a coffee instead.
To your surprise, minutes later, without a word, your boss Dave places a cup on your desk. You take a sip, and it's just how you like it!

Realization dawns. It's not the words that are important, but the thoughts! Childhood mysteries are suddenly clear; no wonder you got away with so much, you wanted dearly for no-one to find out when you did something wrong, so no-one did!

What evil plots blossom in your superhuman mind?
